In short: Shut the Box does not ask for your name, email or any account. There are no adverts and no cookies. We count visits without recording who you are, and you can switch that off below. Your game is saved on your own device, and we cannot see it.

What stays on your device
The game saves a few things in your browser so it works when you come back. They never leave your device and we never see them. The full list is on the cookies and storage page.
How we count visits
We count visits so we know which games people find and enjoy. Each visit records the page, the country it came from, the type of browser and device, the site that sent you, and when a game is started, finished (with the score) or shared, or the for-sale link is used. Your IP address is shortened before anything is stored, so it cannot point to you. We set no cookies and do not try to recognise you from one day to the next, and we never record your name or contact details.
The counting is done for us by Matomo, run by InnoCraft, which stores the figures in the European Union and uses them only for us. We rely on our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used, and on the UK rule that lets sites count visits for statistics when they explain it clearly and make it easy to say no.
To stop being counted, use the button below. It remembers your choice on this device. Switching on "Do Not Track" in your browser also stops it.
What our host handles
When your browser loads this site, Cloudflare, which hosts the site and protects it from attacks, briefly handles basic connection details: your IP address, browser type, the page asked for and the time. This is needed to send you the page and to block attacks. We do not use it to identify you. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe website. Cloudflare may process this outside the UK under the legal safeguards UK law requires.
If you email us
We use your email address and what you write only to reply and to keep a record of the conversation. We keep emails for up to two years unless they are about buying the domain, which we keep as business records. We rely on our legitimate interest in answering you.
Sharing your result
The Share button makes a picture on your device and opens your own device's share menu. You choose where it goes. Nothing passes through us.
Children
Shut the Box is for everyone, including children. We never ask who anyone is, build a profile of anyone or show adverts. We only look at the counts as totals. Each visit is kept as its own record, but it holds nothing more precise than the country and the shortened IP address, and nothing that names anyone. Counting can be switched off above. We designed the site with the ICO's Children's Code in mind.
We never
- sell or share information about you
- use adverts or advertising trackers
- build a profile of you
- load fonts from other companies, or any script except the anonymous visit counter above
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (and the EU GDPR if you live in the EU) you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit it. Email hello@onomora.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Changes
If anything here changes, for example if we add a new feature, we will update this page and the date at the top.
